1 cup warm water
2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2.5 cups all-purpose flour
0.5 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
0.5 cup baking soda
6 cups water
0.5 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar until dissolved and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add in the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix well until dough is formed and starts pulling away.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic consistency is achieved.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for the pretzels.
- Meanwhile, bring 6 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
- Once the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a long rope, shaping into pretzels.
- Gently drop each pretzel into the boiling soda water for about 30 seconds, then place on the prepared sheet.
- Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown, then remove from oven.
- Melt the butter and brush it generously over the baked pretzels while they’re still warm.
- Mix together 0.5 cup sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish and dip each buttered pretzel in the mixture.
