Quick Ham and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast

Healthy Fact of the Day

Choose reduced-sodium ham and part-skim cheese to cut back on salt and fat, and use whole wheat breadcrumbs for added fiber and nutrients.

Quick Ham and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast delivers comfort food satisfaction with elegant presentation. Tender chicken breasts cradle savory ham and melted cheese, while a golden breadcrumb coating adds satisfying crunch to every bite. Pair with a light Chardonnay or crisp Sauvignon Blanc—both wines complement the dish’s richness without competing with the cheese’s creamy goodness.

Round out this satisfying meal with Creamy Mashed Potatoes that echo the dish’s comforting appeal, and add Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic and Cranberries for a bright, tangy contrast that cuts through the rich, cheesy filling.

    Ingredients

    • 4 pieces chicken breasts

    • 8 slices ham

    • 8 slices cheese

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    • 1 teaspoon salt

    • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

    • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs

    Directions

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking dish by lightly greasing it with olive oil to prevent sticking.
    • Carefully butterfly each chicken breast by slicing horizontally but not all the way through, creating a pocket for the filling.
    • Place two slices of ham and two slices of cheese inside each chicken breast and fold the breast to enclose the fillings.
    • Secure the stuffed chicken breasts with toothpicks or kitchen twine to prevent the fillings from spilling out during cooking.
    • Brush the outside of each chicken breast with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and black pepper for added flavor.
    • Coat the chicken breasts in breadcrumbs, ensuring an even layer, and place in the prepared baking dish.
    • Bake the stuffed chicken breasts in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
    • Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes after baking before removing the toothpicks or twine. Serve warm.

    Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!

The Vinegar Shelf: Why the Most Overlooked Ingredient in Your Pantry Deserves More Attention

Apple cider vinegar — particularly raw, unfiltered versions containing the “mother” of fermentation — contains acetic acid, enzymes, and beneficial bacteria that have demonstrated modest but genuine effects on blood sugar regulation in clinical research. Several studies have found that consuming vinegar before or with a meal reduces postprandial blood glucose and insulin response, with effects that are meaningful for people managing blood sugar levels. The mechanism appears to involve acetic acid’s inhibition of starch-digesting enzymes, slowing the absorption of carbohydrates. While the health claims surrounding apple cider vinegar are often overstated in popular culture, the specific blood sugar modulation effect has genuine clinical support — making the vinegar used in cooking a functional ingredient as well as a flavor one.
