Turkey Club

Healthy Fact of the Day

The Turkey Club sandwich offers a mix of nutrients but is also high in calories. Turkey provides lean protein, essential for muscle health and satiety. Avocado contributes heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and fiber. Tomatoes offer vitamin C and lycopene. To make it healthier, use whole grain bread for added fiber and nutrients. Consider turkey bacon or omit bacon to reduce saturated fat and sodium. Use mashed avocado as a spread instead of mayonnaise to boost nutrition and reduce calories. Adding extra vegetables like cucumber or sprouts can increase the fiber and nutrient content. While delicious, this sandwich is calorie-dense, so be mindful of portion sizes. Pairing half a sandwich with a side salad can create a more balanced meal.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices white or whole wheat bread, toasted
  • 1 lb sliced roasted turkey breast
  • 8 slices cooked bacon
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 4 leaves of crisp lettuce (iceberg or romaine)
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 toothpicks or sandwich picks

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise and Dijon mustard.

  2. Lay out 12 pieces of toasted bread on a clean work surface.

  3. Spread the mayo-mustard mixture on one side of each bread slice.

  4. On 4 slices of bread, layer turkey, tomato, and season with salt and pepper.

  5. Top each with another slice of bread.

  6. On top of these slices, add bacon, avocado, and lettuce.

  7. Cover with the remaining 4 slices of bread, mayo side down.

  8. Gently press down on each sandwich.

  9. Cut each sandwich diagonally into quarters.

  10. Secure each quarter with a toothpick.

  11. Serve immediately.

Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!

Sam’s Club Just Added a New Fall Comfort Meal That’s Already Getting Rave Reviews

Prepared meals like pot roast can be higher in sodium than a homemade version, especially once gravy is factored in. To lighten things up, pair the tray with a simple side salad or steamed green vegetable to add fiber and volume without extra sodium. If the gravy tastes salty on its own, using less of it and letting the beef and vegetables carry more of the flavor is an easy way to cut back without sacrificing the comfort-food feel.

The Stone Fruit Reckoning: What to Do With Too Many Peaches

Peaches and other stone fruits are significant dietary sources of several important nutrients that peak-season specimens provide in higher concentrations than their out-of-season counterparts. Peak-season peaches contain measurably higher levels of vitamin C, beta-carotene, and the flavonoid chlorogenic acid — a potent antioxidant associated with reduced inflammation and improved cardiovascular markers — than early-season or commercially ripened alternatives. The carotenoids that give ripe peaches their deep orange-gold color are fat-soluble, meaning that serving peaches with dairy fat — the cream, the yogurt, the butter used in a skillet preparation — significantly increases the absorption of these compounds compared to eating the fruit alone.
