Crockpot Bourbon Chicken

Healthy Fact of the Day

Slow cooking helps retain moisture in lean chicken breasts while breaking down proteins for easier digestion. The bourbon adds flavor complexity while most alcohol content cooks off during the long cooking process.

This Crockpot Bourbon Chicken brings together the best of sweet and savory flavors in one incredibly easy dish. The chicken becomes fall-apart tender while absorbing all the rich bourbon, brown sugar, and soy sauce flavors. Just set it and forget it for a dinner that tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen but requires minimal effort.

    Ingredients

    • 1.5 pounds chicken breasts

    • 0.5 cup bourbon

    • 0.5 cup soy sauce

    • 0.25 cup brown sugar

    • 2 tablespoons ketchup

    • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar

    • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

    • 1 clove garlic, minced

    • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes

    • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

    • 3 tablespoons water

    Directions

    • Place the chicken breasts into the crockpot ensuring they are evenly spread out. This will help them cook evenly.
    • In a mixing bowl, combine bourbon, soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, cider vinegar, ground ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes.
    • Pour the bourbon sauce mixture over the chicken in the crockpot and ensure all pieces are well coated with the sauce.
    • Cover the crockpot with the lid and set it to cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours until the chicken is tender.
    • Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the crockpot and set it aside, keeping it warm to maintain its moisture.
    • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water together until smooth, then pour into the crockpot sauce to thicken it.
    • Set the crockpot to high heat and stir the sauce occasionally until it thickens, which should take about 15-20 minutes.
    • Once the sauce is thickened to your desired consistency, return the chicken to the crockpot to reheat through before serving.

    Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!
