Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Healthy Fact of the Day

While indulgent, potatoes provide important nutrients including vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. To make healthier, use milk instead of cream and reduce butter amount. Consider leaving skins on for extra fiber and nutrients. Roasted garlic adds flavor and beneficial compounds without many calories. For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese and replace some butter with olive oil. While calorie-dense, these can be part of a balanced meal when portion sizes are moderate. The protein in milk helps make them more satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cloves roasted garlic
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Fresh chives, chopped
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Extra melted butter for serving
  • Cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut potatoes into even chunks.

  2. Place in cold salted water, bring to boil.

  3. Simmer until fork-tender, about 20 minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, warm milk and cream together.

  5. Drain potatoes thoroughly, return to pot.

  6. Dry potatoes over low heat for 2 minutes.

  7. Pass through ricer or mash until smooth.

  8. Add butter in stages, stirring until melted.

  9. Gradually stir in warm milk mixture.

  10. Fold in cream cheese and roasted garlic.

  11. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

  12. Whip until perfectly smooth and creamy.

Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!
