KFC’s Fried Pickles Are Back — And This Time They Brought Friends

Healthy Fact of the Day

Fried pickles are a fun treat, but they pack more sodium than you might expect from such a small side — primarily from both the pickling brine and the seasoned breading. If you're watching your sodium intake, enjoying a smaller portion alongside a lighter main course can help keep the overall meal balanced. The Prickly Pear Lemonade is a better choice than a fountain soda if you're looking for something with a little more natural flavor, though it still contains added sugar — water or unsweetened tea remains the lowest-calorie pairing if you're keeping things in check.

The pickle craze isn’t slowing down, and KFC is leaning all the way in.

KFC’s fried pickles returned to menus nationwide on May 18, just in time for summer — and the chain didn’t stop there. Alongside the fan-favorite side, KFC also unveiled a brand-new Signature Prickly Pear Lemonade, two new digital-exclusive snack box combos, and a Rewards-exclusive $5 tenders deal. It’s the most loaded fried pickle launch the chain has put together yet.

The Fried Pickles Are Back — With New Sauces to Match

The fried pickles are available in an eight-piece order, served golden fried with your choice of dipping sauce. New sauce options include the recently debuted Jalapeño Ranch and Honey Chili Crisp, giving fans more ways to customize their order.

The Honey Chili Crisp is the more interesting of the two additions — chili crisp has dominated home kitchens and restaurant menus alike over the past two years, and KFC applying it as a dipping sauce format for fried pickles is a smart pairing. The heat and umami depth of the chili crisp plays off the tangy, briny pickle in a way that feels genuinely complementary rather than gimmicky.

“The pickle craze is here to stay,” said Melissa Cash, CMO of KFC U.S. “The response to our fried pickles last summer proved that demand is still strong. We’re building on that momentum by bringing them back to our menu.”

A Brand-New Summer Drink: Prickly Pear Lemonade

Joining the returning fried pickles is a new limited-time drink: the KFC Signature Prickly Pear Lemonade. The beverage blends KFC’s Signature Lemonade with the sweet flavor of prickly pear cactus, designed to complement the crispy, tangy bite of fried pickles with a cool, refreshing contrast.

Prickly pear has a uniquely sweet, melon-adjacent flavor profile that’s distinct from other fruit lemonades — closer to watermelon than citrus, with a floral undertone. The vibrant pink color of the drink is a natural result of the prickly pear itself, not artificial coloring. It’s a pairing that makes sense — the sweetness of the lemonade cutting through the salty, vinegary bite of the fried pickles.

Digital-Exclusive Snack Box Combos

KFC launched two new snack box combinations available exclusively through digital ordering: Nuggets + Fried Pickles (five golden brown chicken nuggets paired with eight fried pickles) and Fries + Fried Pickles (eight fried pickles served alongside a side of fries), both with your choice of sauce.

Both combos are available only through KFC.com or the app at participating locations and cannot be combined with other offers.

The $5 Tenders Deal for Rewards Members

KFC Rewards Members get an additional limited-time perk alongside the fried pickle launch: five tenders with two dipping sauces for $5, available exclusively through digital ordering. It’s a meaningful value add for app users and a solid incentive to download the KFC app if you haven’t already.

Why Fried Pickles Keep Coming Back

The fried pickle’s return isn’t surprising when you look at the numbers. Last summer’s launch generated some of the strongest positive feedback KFC had seen on a limited-time item in years, with Reddit threads calling them “the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth” and urging the chain to make them permanent. Add in the broader pickle trend that’s been sweeping the snack industry — from Lay’s World Cup pickle chip to Fritos’ upcoming Spicy Dill Pickle Flavor Twists — and the timing makes perfect sense.

The Bottom Line

KFC’s fried pickles are available now at participating locations nationwide in an eight-piece order, for a limited time. Pair them with the new Jalapeño Ranch or Honey Chili Crisp sauce, grab a Signature Prickly Pear Lemonade, and if you’re ordering digitally, check out the new snack box combos and the $5 tenders Rewards deal.

Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!

The Flavors That Everyone Loves but Nobody Talks About

Capsaicin — the compound responsible for chili heat — has been extensively studied for its health effects beyond its sensory properties. Regular consumption of capsaicin has been associated with increased metabolic rate, reduced appetite, improved cardiovascular markers, and antimicrobial effects in multiple clinical studies. The endorphin release triggered by capsaicin consumption produces measurable reductions in perceived pain and improvements in mood. And populations with high chili consumption — in South and Southeast Asia, in Mexico, in parts of Africa — consistently show lower rates of certain chronic diseases in epidemiological studies, though the relationship is complex and likely reflects dietary patterns rather than capsaicin alone.

Starbucks Just Confirmed the S’mores Frappuccino Is Coming Back — Here’s Everything Dropping This Summer

Frappuccinos are one of the more indulgent items on the Starbucks menu — a grande S’mores Frappuccino runs over 400 calories with significant added sugar. If you want the campfire flavor with a lighter footprint, the new S’mores Cold Brew is the smarter pick: it delivers the marshmallow and chocolate flavors in a cold brew format that’s significantly lower in calories and sugar than the blended version. Ordering a tall instead of a grande, asking for light whip, or requesting fewer pumps of vanilla syrup are easy customizations that meaningfully reduce the calorie count without losing the experience.
