The FIFA World Cup kicks off June 11 right here in North America, and Lay’s is already gearing up for the biggest snacking moment of the year.
As the official snack sponsor of FIFA World Cup 26, Lay’s announced on April 21 that it’s releasing 40 limited-edition flavors globally — each one inspired by the cuisines of countries competing in the tournament. U.S. shoppers get three of them, all arriving in early May.
The Three U.S. Flavors
Each of the three chips hitting American shelves is inspired by one of soccer’s most storied football nations — and each one represents a World Cup powerhouse.
Lay’s Argentinian-Style Steak with Chimichurri — Inspired by Argentina, the reigning World Cup champion, this flavor delivers a rich steak taste blended with cilantro, lemon, basil, bay, thyme, oregano, parsley, and garlic. It’s a nod to the herb-forward chimichurri sauce that’s as central to Argentine food culture as the asado itself. This flavor actually debuted ahead of the 2025 games and is returning for the World Cup run.
Lay’s Brazilian-Style Garlic Sauce — Brazil has won more World Cups than any other country — five — and its flavor is buttery garlic with creamy dairy and a tangy lemon finish. It captures the bold, layered flavor profile that defines a lot of Brazilian cooking without leaning into heat or spice.
Lay’s Wavy French Onion Soup — The third flavor represents France, the 2018 World Cup champion, with a rich, savory French onion soup profile in wavy chip form. It’s the most familiar flavor of the three for American palates — and probably the one most likely to disappear fastest from grocery shelves.
A World of Flavors You Can’t Get Here
Part of what makes the global rollout interesting is just how many flavors are out there that won’t reach U.S. stores. Internationally, Lay’s is rolling out options like Mexican Tacos, English Bangers and Mash, Portuguese Chorizo and Onion, Canadian Maple Caramel, Polish Kielbasa, Italian Pizza Margherita, and Argentinian Asado, among dozens of others.
For anyone traveling to a host city or watching matches abroad, the chip aisle is going to look very different depending on where you are.
A Chance to Win World Cup Tickets
Beyond the chips, Lay’s is running a Fan of the Match sweepstakes that’s worth knowing about — especially given how expensive and difficult World Cup tickets have been to acquire this cycle.
Through Saturday, May 2, fans in the U.S. can enter at LaysFWC26.com for a chance to win from a pool of 104 prizes, each including premium match tickets, pitch-side access, and a spot on the stadium videoboard during the match.
Where to Find the Chips
All three U.S. flavors hit stores nationwide in early May and will also be available on TikTok Shop and snacks.com. No specific pricing has been announced, but Lay’s limited-edition flavors typically fall in line with the brand’s standard retail pricing.
The Bottom Line
Lay’s Argentinian-Style Steak with Chimichurri, Brazilian-Style Garlic Sauce, and Wavy French Onion Soup arrive at U.S. retailers in early May as the official snack of FIFA World Cup 26. The sweepstakes at LaysFWC26.com runs through May 2. The World Cup kicks off June 11.
