Homemade Cannoli

Healthy Fact of the Day

While cannoli are a treat, some ingredients offer nutritional benefits. Ricotta provides protein and calcium. To make slightly healthier, use low-fat ricotta and reduce sugar content. Consider dark chocolate chips for antioxidants. Pistachios add healthy fats and protein. The orange zest provides vitamin C and brightens flavors without adding calories. These are best enjoyed as an occasional dessert. For portion control, make mini cannoli or fill only when ready to serve. The protein from ricotta makes these more satisfying than many desserts.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup marsala wine

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!

Why the Best Cooks in the World Are Obsessed With Simplicity

Simpler meals built around fewer, higher-quality whole food ingredients consistently score better on nutritional density measures than complex dishes with many processed components. Research on dietary patterns shows that meals centered on a single high-quality protein, a vegetable, and a whole grain — prepared simply — deliver more micronutrients per calorie than elaborate multi-component dishes that rely on sauces, additives, and processed ingredients to build flavor.

Kellogg’s Just Put Toys Back in Cereal Boxes for the First Time in Over a Decade

Many kids’ cereals are high in added sugar, so a fun promotion like this is a good opportunity to check the nutrition label before filling the bowl. Pairing a sweetened cereal with a protein source like eggs, Greek yogurt, or a glass of milk helps balance the meal and keeps kids fuller longer. Serving a smaller portion of a fun cereal alongside a higher-fiber option is another easy way to let kids enjoy the experience without overdoing the sugar first thing in the morning.
