    Ingredients

    • 1 lb Italian sausage

    • 12 oz rigatoni pasta

    • 2 tbsp olive oil

    • 1 large onion, chopped

    • 2 cloves garlic, minced

    • 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes

    • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese

    • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

    • 0.25 tsp red pepper flakes

    • to taste salt and pepper

    • 1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped

    Directions

    • Cook the rigatoni pasta according to the package instructions in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
    • Remove the sausage from its casing and add to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon and cook until browned and cooked through.
    • Pour the diced tomatoes into the skillet with the cooked sausage, along with Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes, stirring well to combine.
    • Let the sauce simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together, stirring occasionally.
    • Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the sausage and tomato mixture, tossing until well combined.
    • Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh basil before serving hot.
