1 cup diced ham
3 cups chicken broth
2 cups diced potatoes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup frozen corn
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter
0.5 teaspoon black pepper
0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced ham and chopped onion. Cook for about 5 minutes until onion softens.
- Stir in the flour, coating the ham and onion, and cook for another 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.
- Add the diced potatoes to the pot. Cover and allow to cook for 15 minutes, until the potatoes are tender.
- Stir in the milk, frozen corn, black pepper, and garlic powder. Heat the mixture for about 5 minutes until warm.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it melts into the chowder, creating a creamy consistency.
