Bone In Prime Rib

Healthy Fact of the Day

While prime rib is indulgent, it provides high-quality protein, iron, and B vitamins. The herbs add antioxidants and beneficial compounds. To make it healthier, trim excess fat before cooking and choose a leaner cut. Consider serving smaller portions alongside plenty of vegetables. The protein content makes this very satisfying, helping control portion sizes naturally. Fresh herbs provide flavor without additional calories. This is a special occasion dish best enjoyed in moderation. The long resting period ensures juicier meat and better nutrient retention.

Ingredients

  • 8-10 lb bone-in prime rib roast
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp black peppercorns, crushed
  • 2 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
    Kitchen twine
  • Meat thermometer

Instructions

  1. Remove roast from refrigerator 3 hours before cooking.

  2. Mix herbs, garlic, mustard, and softened butter into paste.

  3. Pat roast dry with paper towels.

  4. Rub with Worcestershire sauce and olive oil.

  5. Season generously with salt and pepper.

  6. Spread herb-butter mixture over entire roast.

  7. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).

Tip of the Day

“Always let your meat rest before slicing.”

Whether you're roasting a chicken, grilling steak, or baking pork tenderloin, letting cooked meat rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing allows the juices to redistribute evenly. This simple step keeps your meat juicy and tender, ensuring every bite is flavorful and moist. Bonus: It gives you a moment to plate your sides or garnish for a perfect presentation!
