Clams Casino

Healthy Fact of the Day

Clams are an excellent source of lean protein, vitamin B12, and iron. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for heart and brain health. However, due to the butter and bacon, enjoy this dish in moderation.

Ingredients

 

  • 24 littleneck clams, shucked with half shells reserved
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lemon wedges for serving

 

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, red bell pepper, shallots, garlic, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined.

  3. Arrange the clam shells on a baking sheet. Place one clam in each shell.

  4. Top each clam with a spoonful of the butter mixture, then sprinkle with crumbled bacon.

  5. Bake the clams for 10-12 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the clams are cooked through.

  6. Remove the clams from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.

  7. Serve the clams casino with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
